Prabhas-starrer Spirit is scheduled to reach theatres on March 5, 2027, giving it around 37 days before SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi arrives on April 7. Despite the relatively short gap between the two highly anticipated films, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga said he believes the available theatrical window will be sufficient. His comments came during a press interaction in Hyderabad while he was promoting Romanchakam, produced by his brother Pranay Reddy Vanga.

Vanga was asked whether Spirit would have enough time to establish itself at the box office before Varanasi arrives. He expressed confidence that the film could make the most of the 37-day period. When asked jokingly whether the release date might be shifted because of the competition, the filmmaker dismissed the suggestion and maintained that the existing schedule should work. The comments come as both films are being viewed as major theatrical releases with substantial audience expectations.

The director also played down comparisons between the scale of the two projects. When the reporter referred to both films as ₹1,000-crore productions, Vanga indicated that Varanasi was the bigger film. His remarks suggest that he does not view the April release as an immediate threat to Spirit, despite the fact that Rajamouli's film is expected to attract considerable attention when it reaches cinemas. The two releases will therefore occupy consecutive major windows in the 2027 theatrical calendar.

Vanga also spoke about the certification of Spirit and indicated that the film is likely to receive an A certificate. He said that despite efforts to avoid it, the film would probably be certified for adult audiences. The filmmaker made the remarks while discussing Romanchakam, which has received a U/A certificate and became a departure from the production house's earlier pattern of films receiving A certificates. He also revealed that approximately half of Spirit has already been completed.

Spirit is directed by Vanga and stars Prabhas alongside Triptii Dimri and Vivek Oberoi. The film is being produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under T-Series Films, along with Pranay Reddy Vanga and Prabhakar Reddy Vanga under Bhadrakali Pictures. Earlier speculation about appearances by Prakash Raj and Korean action star Don Lee has also been addressed, with the latter's reported involvement dismissed by the production team.

Meanwhile, Varanasi is being directed by SS Rajamouli and features Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Rajamouli has co-written the film with V Vijayendra Prasad and SS Kanchi, with the project backed by Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business. With Spirit scheduled to arrive just over a month earlier, Vanga believes its 37-day theatrical window provides enough opportunity for the Prabhas-led film to establish a strong box-office run before Varanasi takes over the spotlight.
