Fresh threat messages targeting actor Ranveer Singh and filmmaker Rohit Shetty have sparked renewed concern within Bollywood, with industry voices warning against panic while calling for stronger security measures.
According to reports, Ranveer received a ransom threat via a voice note earlier this week. A subsequent alleged message warned of targeting his staff and also mentioned Rohit. The development follows an earlier incident on February 1 when shots were fired outside Rohit’s Mumbai residence, prompting authorities to increase security around the filmmaker.
Investigators are examining the authenticity of the latest audio clip, in which the sender allegedly identified himself as “Harry Boxer”, claiming links to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Mumbai Police have launched a probe and are working to trace the origin of the threat. Sources close to Rohit clarified that his staff had not been directly threatened in the new message.

The scare comes amid a broader pattern of intimidation attempts. Actor Aayush Sharma also reportedly received a threatening email this week, allegedly from someone claiming association with the Bishnoi gang. Police officials have registered a case and indicated that more celebrities may have received similar threats, though formal complaints are required for action.
Industry bodies have responded with concern but urged restraint. Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association president Ashoke Pandit said unchecked incidents could have wider consequences beyond the film fraternity. Meanwhile, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta asserted that the situation should not be compared to the underworld-dominated 1990s, noting that modern policing and surveillance capabilities are far stronger.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking intervention, while filmmaker Hansal Mehta called for urgency without panic, urging the industry to remain united and rely on firm law enforcement action to deter intimidation attempts.
