Actor Rahul Dev has criticised sections of the media for what he described as “insensitive” behaviour during the funeral of his younger brother and fellow actor Mukul Dev, who passed away last year at the age of 54. Speaking about the incident in a recent interaction, Rahul said he was not embarrassed about confronting photographers and media personnel at the funeral, adding that those involved should instead feel ashamed for intruding during a moment of personal grief.
Rahul Dev revealed that he had not invited media representatives to the funeral ceremony and was surprised to see photographers and reporters present at the crematorium. According to the actor, the media arrived after noticing details about the funeral that he had briefly shared through an Instagram Story. Recalling the difficult circumstances of the day, Rahul said he had to quickly arrange the funeral proceedings after bringing his brother from the hospital and was largely handling the situation alone because both of their parents had already passed away.
Expressing disappointment over the conduct of some photographers, Rahul said members of the media should behave more responsibly and sensitively while covering personal tragedies involving public figures. He acknowledged that he has several friends within the media industry but stressed that there should be ethical boundaries during moments such as funerals and family bereavements. The actor said the experience left him disturbed, particularly because the focus appeared to shift from mourning and respect to aggressive photography and public coverage.
