The upcoming crime thriller series Scarpetta features Nicole Kidman in the lead role as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a forensic pathologist known for solving complex murder cases using scientific evidence. The series is based on the bestselling novels by Patricia Cornwell and brings the long-running fictional character to the screen for the first time in a major streaming adaptation. Kidman confirmed her involvement in the project through a social media post, expressing excitement about portraying the iconic character created by Cornwell.
Kay Scarpetta is a central figure in Cornwell’s crime novels, which began in 1990 and have since gained a large global readership. In the stories, Scarpetta serves as a chief medical examiner who investigates violent crimes through forensic science while navigating complex personal and professional challenges. The series adaptation has been developed for television by writer and producer Liz Sarnoff, with production support from Amazon MGM Studios.
The show follows Scarpetta as she examines difficult murder cases using advanced forensic techniques and medical expertise. The narrative reportedly shifts between past and present timelines, revisiting an earlier case from Scarpetta’s career that resurfaces years later. As the investigation unfolds, new clues and revelations begin to emerge, forcing the protagonist to reconsider events from the past and uncover hidden truths.

The first season premiered on March 11 on Amazon Prime Video, with all eight episodes released simultaneously, allowing viewers in India and other countries to stream the crime thriller series on the platform.
