The makers of Gullak have sparked debate among fans after announcing a major casting change for the show’s upcoming fifth season. Responding to the criticism, actor Harsh Mayar shared an emotional message urging audiences to support the new season with “an open heart". In a video posted on social media, Harsh acknowledged the strong emotional connection fans have built with the Mishra family over the years and said he fully understood why viewers were upset by the recast. He added that some creative and professional decisions remain outside the control of actors and the production team.
Harsh also reassured fans that despite the casting change, the essence and emotional depth of Gullak would remain intact. The series has earned a loyal audience for its relatable storytelling, middle-class family dynamics, and grounded performances. Over multiple seasons, the show developed a strong fan base that became deeply attached to its characters, making the replacement of Annu Mishra one of the biggest changes in the show’s history.
