Bollywood has lost one of its most enduring icons. Dharmendra Deol, affectionately known as the “He-Man” of Indian cinema, passed away on November 24 at his Mumbai residence. He was 89 and would have turned 90 on December 8. According to reports, the veteran actor recently recovered from a bout of illness after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital, where he was admitted in late October due to breathing difficulties.
Dharmendra's illustrious six-decade career began with his debut in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960. Widely recognized for his charming screen presence and versatility, he went on to portray a range of memorable characters in classics like Anpadh, Bandini, Anupama, and Aaya Sawan Jhoom Ke. As his career flourished through the 1970s and 80s, Dharmendra emerged as one of Hindi cinema’s most bankable heroes, leading iconic films such as Sholay, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Dream Girl.
The actor’s final on-screen appearance was in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, released earlier this year. He was also set to feature in Ikkis, a war drama starring Agastya Nanda, slated for a December 25 release. His passing marks the end of an era, leaving fans and colleagues across the film industry heartbroken.

Adding poignancy to his departure, Dharmendra’s last post on X (formerly Twitter) featured a touching black-and-white photograph with his wife, the “Dream Girl” of Bollywood, Hema Malini. The image, shared on March 23, 2025, captured the couple holding each other — a testament to their enduring love both on and off screen.
Dharmendra and Hema Malini’s love story remains one of Bollywood’s most cherished romances. The two met on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawan in 1970, their reel-life chemistry blossoming into a real-life bond that overcame all odds. They married in 1980 and went on to star together in several blockbusters, including Seeta Aur Geeta and Sholay. As cinema lovers mourn his passing, Dharmendra’s warmth, humility, and timeless performances continue to inspire actors and audiences alike.
