Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s latest romantic comedy, De De Pyaar De 2, continues to make steady gains at the Indian box office. Directed by Anshul Sharma, the family dramedy collected Rs 13.75 crore on Sunday, marking its best single-day performance since release. With this, the film’s total domestic collection at the end of its opening weekend stands at Rs 34.75 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.
The film saw a consistent rise through the weekend. After a modest opening on Friday at Rs 8.75 crore, collections jumped by nearly 40 percent on Saturday to Rs 12.25 crore before surging again on Sunday. The sequel’s opening weekend tally has comfortably surpassed Son of Sardaar 2, which managed Rs 24.75 crore over the same period earlier this year. However, industry trade experts note that the real test for De De Pyaar De 2 will come during the weekdays when footfall tends to slow down.
Despite the positive start, the sequel remains behind its 2019 predecessor, De De Pyaar De, which had opened at Rs 39 crore (including paid previews) and ended its run with a domestic total of Rs 104.13 crore. Whether the second installment can match that mark is uncertain, especially with new releases like 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishk Mein, Gustaakh Ishq, and Dhurandhar arriving in the coming weeks.

For Ajay Devgn, De De Pyaar De 2 marks another addition to a successful year after Raid 2, which grossed an impressive Rs 173.05 crore, surpassing the first film in the franchise. Yet, the current film’s opening weekend figure lags behind Devgn and Madhavan’s earlier collaboration, Shaitaan, which earned Rs 54 crore in just three days and went on to cross Rs 148 crore domestically.
The sequel introduces new faces to the franchise, including R. Madhavan, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezan Jafri, while Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Jaaved Jaaferi reprise their roles from the original. Produced by Luv Ranjan Films and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, De De Pyaar De 2 blends romance, comedy, and family drama. With favorable word of mouth and solid weekend footing, the film now looks to maintain momentum amid fierce box-office competition.
