The 17-day celebration of 47th Prithvi Theatre Festival launched on November 1, 2025, in Mumbai’s Juhu runs until November 17. It honors Prithviraj Kapoor’s legacy through live plays, workshops, and music. Founded in 1978 by Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal, Prithvi remains a cornerstone of Hindi theatre. The opening night drew Bollywood’s elite in a display of warmth and artistic unity.
Veterans Naseeruddin Shah and Neena Gupta stole the spotlight, dancing with radiant smiles. Saif Ali Khan shared lively moments with trustee Zahan Kapoor. Ratna Pathak Shah, Mahesh Bhatt, and Pooja Bhatt added family legacy to the evening. Vinay Pathak, Aahana Kumra, Shreya Chaudhry, and Divya Dutta joined the celebration. Zoya Akhtar, Vishal and Rekha Bhardwaj, Pratik Gandhi, Masaba Gupta, Satyadeep Mishra, and rapper Slow Cheetah completed the star-studded lineup.
Zahan Kapoor called the festival “magical” and invited all to join. Kunal Kapoor highlighted its role in rejuvenating theatre’s community spirit. The official caption read: “An evening of celebration, connection, and theatre’s timeless charm.” Over 35 events will unfold, blending tradition with bold new voices.

Standout plays include Dur Se Brothers’ A Fish Ate My Cat, directed by Yuki Ellias. Poor Box Productions presents Eden Creek, and 72° East brings back The Queen. Workshops feature Naseeruddin Shah’s acting masterclass on November 6 and Shernaz Patel’s voice session on November 7. The festival champions women-led stories and emerging talent.
With national park screenings, improv, and music, Prithvi 2025 offers something for every theatre lover. It reaffirms the stage as a space for healing, growth, and connection. Mumbai’s cultural heartbeat pulses stronger than ever.
