Playback singer Arijit Singh is set to return to Bollywood playback singing with Yeh Awarapan, the first song from Awarapan 2, marking his comeback after announcing his retirement from accepting new playback assignments earlier this year. According to a report by Pinkvilla, the track has been composed by Amaal Malik with lyrics by Rashmi Virag and is scheduled to release on July 21 across major music streaming platforms.
The report states that Awarapan 2 producer Vishesh Bhatt wanted the film's first song to capture the emotional journey of lead character Shivam Pandit, played by Emraan Hashmi. Arijit Singh was chosen to lend his voice to the track, with the makers believing his singing style best suited the film's emotional narrative. The collaboration also marks another chapter in the long-standing creative association between Arijit Singh and Vishesh Films.
Arijit Singh and Vishesh Films have worked together on several successful Bollywood songs over the years. Their association began with Phir Mohabbat from Murder 2 and later produced several popular tracks, including Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2, Muskurane from CityLights, the title tracks of Khamoshiyan and Hamari Adhuri Kahani, as well as Pal from Jalebi. These songs have remained among the most celebrated works in contemporary Hindi film music.

Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead role alongside Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli and Atul Kumar. The film has been produced by Vishesh Bhatt, directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 14.
Earlier this year, Arijit Singh announced that he would no longer accept new playback singing assignments. In a note shared on Instagram, the singer thanked his listeners for their support over the years and said he had decided to step away from taking up fresh projects as a playback vocalist. The announcement surprised fans and the music industry, given his continued popularity and consistent success in Bollywood.
With the release of Yeh Awarapan, Arijit Singh returns to playback singing after his brief retirement announcement, reuniting with a production house that has been closely associated with several milestones in his career. The song's release is expected to generate significant interest among music lovers ahead of Awarapan 2 arriving in cinemas next month.
