Adrian Grenier has expressed disappointment over not being part of the upcoming sequel to the popular fashion-industry film The Devil Wears Prada. The actor, who portrayed Nate — the boyfriend of protagonist Andy Sachs — in the 2006 film, recently said he was not contacted to return for the follow-up project.
The sequel, titled The Devil Wears Prada 2, has generated considerable excitement among fans nearly two decades after the original movie’s release. Several prominent cast members from the first film are set to reprise their roles, including Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on May 1, 2026.
Speaking to Page Six in comments reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Grenier said he was pleased that the franchise is returning but admitted he felt disappointed about not being invited back. “We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we were in it,” he said. “Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel.”

The actor suggested that the reaction to his character in the original film may have influenced the decision. Over the years, viewers have debated Nate’s role in the story, with some fans arguing that he failed to support Andy as she navigated the intense demands of her job in the fashion industry.
When asked whether he truly believed fan backlash played a role in the character’s absence, Grenier responded with humour. Laughing, he remarked, “As opposed to what?” before adding that the situation still left creative possibilities open. He jokingly suggested the idea of a potential spin-off centered on Nate.
The original The Devil Wears Prada, based on the best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger, follows aspiring journalist Andy Sachs as she becomes assistant to the powerful fashion editor Miranda Priestly. Nearly twenty years after the film’s release, the story is set to return with a new chapter when The Devil Wears Prada 2 premieres in cinemas worldwide in May 2026.
