Kakkadampoyil Master Plan: Panchayats Join Hands For Tourism Boom
Panchayats plan master strategy, travel mart to boost Kakkadampoyil tourism.
Kakkadampoyil is set to receive a comprehensive tourism development master plan as local bodies in Kozhikode and neighbouring Malappuram seek to develop the hill station as a major tourism destination. Koodaranhi grama panchayat in Kozhikode and Oorngattiri grama panchayat in Malappuram are planning to coordinate their efforts under a common framework being discussed with the State government and the Tourism Department.
The proposed master plan is expected to bring infrastructure development, tourism promotion, environmental conservation and local economic development under a unified strategy. Local administrators said the objective is to unlock Kakkadampoyil's tourism potential while protecting its natural landscape and biodiversity. The increasing number of visitors to the hill station has also attracted greater interest from investors in the tourism sector.
The initiative is intended to provide a structured approach to tourism development rather than allowing individual projects to develop without coordination. The proposed framework would seek to balance the need for better tourist facilities and infrastructure with the protection of the region's ecological characteristics. Approval and coordination with the Tourism Department will be important for implementing the proposed development plan.

As an initial step, the local administration is planning a two-day travel mart in November to promote Kakkadampoyil on the national and international tourism circuit. Thiruvambady MLA C.K. Kasim said the event is expected to be held in the presence of State Ministers and would bring together stakeholders from across the tourism industry.
The travel mart is expected to provide a platform for tour operators, travel agencies, hospitality sector representatives, investors and tourism experts to explore the destination's potential. Discussions on investment and business partnerships are also likely to form part of the event. Organisers see the initiative as an opportunity to showcase Kakkadampoyil's attractions and encourage responsible tourism-related investment.
The proposed master plan and travel mart together are aimed at giving Kakkadampoyil a more prominent position on the tourism map while ensuring that development remains sustainable. Coordination between the two panchayats could help address infrastructure and tourism requirements across administrative boundaries. If the plan receives the necessary government support, the initiative could create new opportunities for local businesses and communities while preserving the hill station's natural environment.
