Mumbai Indians Deny Holding Trade Discussions With CSK Over Hardik Pandya

Mumbai Indians have dismissed speculation linking captain Hardik Pandya with a potential trade to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), stating that no discussions are underway with any Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise regarding player transfers. The clarification comes amid growing reports suggesting that CSK was exploring a swap deal involving India all-rounder Hardik Pandya ahead of the next IPL season.

According to recent reports, Chennai Super Kings were reportedly considering offering two players, including India batter Shivam Dube, in exchange for Hardik. However, a Mumbai Indians spokesperson has denied the claims, saying the franchise is currently focused on conducting its post-season review following the conclusion of the IPL 2026 campaign. The spokesperson added that no decisions regarding player trades have been taken at this stage.

"Our post-season review is currently underway, and we are looking into all aspects of the team. Contrary to reports, we are not engaged in conversations regarding player trades; any trade would only be possible once the review is complete," the spokesperson told Sportstar. The official further said that several options and ideas are being evaluated as part of the review process, but no conclusions have been reached.

Hardik Pandya took over as Mumbai Indians captain ahead of the IPL 2024 season after returning from Gujarat Titans, where he had led the franchise to significant success. However, his stint as Mumbai skipper has not produced similar results. The five-time IPL champions failed to qualify for the playoffs in the 2026 season, leading to increased scrutiny over the team's performance and reports of dressing-room friction involving senior players.

Speculation over Hardik's future also intensified after reports emerged that he had parted ways with Mumbai Indians' talent management arm. Despite the rumours, the franchise has traditionally backed its core group of players over multiple seasons. Hardik, along with Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, remains central to Mumbai's plans, and with the next IPL mega auction scheduled after the 2027 season, the franchise could opt to retain its current leadership group before considering major changes.
