CSK CEO Dismisses Hardik Pandya Trade Rumours Amid Growing IPL Speculation
CSK dismisses Hardik Pandya trade speculation firmly.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have dismissed speculation surrounding a potential trade move for Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya, with franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan stating that no discussions have taken place regarding the star all-rounder. The clarification comes amid reports linking the five-time IPL champions with a move for Hardik during the Indian Premier League's ongoing trade window following Mumbai's disappointing IPL 2026 campaign.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Viswanathan said the franchise has not yet begun deliberations on player trades and will only review its squad after the conclusion of the 2026 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. "We have not had any discussion. This will be done only after the season review, which will happen only after the MLC," he said. The MLC season, which runs until July 18, features Texas Super Kings, the US-based affiliate of the Chennai franchise, making it unlikely that CSK will take any transfer-related decisions before the tournament concludes.
Speculation over Hardik's future intensified after reports claimed that as many as seven IPL franchises are interested in signing the India all-rounder if he becomes available in the trade market. According to a report by The Times of India, every franchise except defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has expressed interest in acquiring Hardik. Among the teams reportedly leading the race are Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), although CSK's latest comments suggest no formal move has been initiated.

The rumours have gained traction following Mumbai Indians' underwhelming IPL 2026 season, which has fuelled speculation that the franchise could consider changes ahead of the next campaign. Despite Hardik's stature as one of India's premier white-ball all-rounders and a proven IPL-winning captain, Mumbai failed to deliver a consistent performance during the season, prompting discussions over possible squad reshuffles through the trade window.
For CSK, the speculation also comes against the backdrop of another disappointing campaign. The franchise finished eighth in IPL 2026 after ending at the bottom of the table in the previous season. Questions have been raised over captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's leadership following three consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance, while his struggles in the T20 format have added to the scrutiny. Hardik's leadership credentials and experience have naturally made him a name linked with teams looking to strengthen both their squad and captaincy options.
CSK have shown a willingness to make significant trade moves in recent seasons, most notably last year when Sanju Samson joined the franchise from Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja. However, Viswanathan's remarks indicate that any decision regarding potential signings, including a possible move for Hardik Pandya, will only be taken after the franchise completes its post-season assessment. Until then, the future of the Mumbai Indians skipper is expected to remain one of the biggest talking points of the IPL trade window.
