IPL Trade Buzz Grows As Mumbai Indians Identify Star Target Alongside Hardik Pandya

Report links Hardik Pandya to major IPL trade.

Mumbai Indians could be set for a major squad overhaul ahead of the next Indian Premier League season, with reports suggesting that captain Hardik Pandya may be involved in a high-profile trade deal. According to reports, the five-time IPL champions are evaluating significant changes following a disappointing 2026 campaign that saw the franchise finish ninth in the standings and miss out on the playoffs.

The reported shake-up comes amid growing speculation about Pandya's future with the franchise. Sources cited in media reports claim that Mumbai Indians' management is scheduled to conduct a comprehensive review meeting next week, during which the futures of several senior players and members of the coaching staff could be discussed. As part of the restructuring process, Pandya is reportedly being considered for a move away from the franchise.

Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as Mumbai Indians' preferred target in a potential trade arrangement. The young left-handed batter is viewed as a long-term investment and a possible successor to veteran opener Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal's consistent performances in domestic and international cricket have made him one of the most sought-after young players in the game, and reports suggest Mumbai sees him as a cornerstone for the team's future plans.

The report also claimed that Mumbai Indians may consider releasing senior batter Suryakumar Yadav as part of a broader rebuilding strategy. At the same time, the franchise is believed to be exploring a new leadership structure with an eye on long-term stability. Young batter Tilak Varma has reportedly emerged as a leading candidate for the captaincy role after recently being appointed India's vice-captain in T20 Internationals.

Meanwhile, Pandya has suffered another injury setback after being ruled out of India's ODI series against Afghanistan. The all-rounder reportedly picked up a fresh quadriceps strain while undergoing fitness assessments at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. According to reports, the injury may have occurred during bowling drills conducted as part of his recovery from a back spasm sustained during the IPL season.

The latest injury has raised concerns about Pandya's availability and workload management ahead of future international assignments. Despite recurring fitness issues, the 32-year-old remains an important figure in India's ODI plans, particularly with the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa on the horizon. While the trade rumours remain unconfirmed, the coming weeks could prove crucial for both Pandya and Mumbai Indians as the franchise evaluates its direction after a difficult season.
