Ravichandran Ashwin Set to Enter ILT20 Auction After IPL Retirement

Indian cricket great Ravichandran Ashwin, after IPL retirement, will enter the 2026 ILT20 auction in the UAE.

Cricket fans are buzzing with excitement as spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s greatest-ever bowlers, has thrown his hat into the ring for the ILT20 auction, set to take place on September 30 in Dubai. The 39-year-old, who recently retired from the Indian Premier League (IPL), is now eligible to showcase his magic in global T20 leagues, with the UAE’s ILT20 (December 2, 2025 – January 4, 2026) being his first major stop.

Ashwin, boasting an incredible 765 wickets in 287 international matches, is India’s second-highest wicket-taker across formats. His potential entry into the ILT20 marks a historic moment, as he could become the biggest Indian star to grace a global franchise league outside the IPL. “I’m in talks with the organisers, and I’m hopeful a team will pick me up,” Ashwin told Cricbuzz.

Unlike previous ILT20 seasons that used a draft system, this year’s auction format opens the door for high-profile signings. While players like Ambati Rayudu have previously featured in the league for teams like MI Emirates, Ashwin’s Test-match heroics and T20 prowess make him a unique prospect. Will a franchise snap up the spin legend? Fans can’t wait to find out!
