From Victory to Theft: Sorana Cirstea’s Trophy Snatched in New York!

Sorana Cirstea’s trophy was stolen from her New York hotel room during the US Open.

Romanian tennis star Sorana Cirstea, aged 35, suffered a devastating blow off the court when her recently won Cleveland tournament trophy was stolen from her room at The Fifty Sonesta hotel in New York. The theft occurred while she was competing in the US Open, where she fell in the second round of singles to No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova and, alongside partner Anna Kalinskaya, lost in the first round of doubles to Americans Peyton Stearns and McCartney Kessler.

Cirstea shared her anguish on Instagram, writing, “Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314, please give it back! It has NO material value, just sentimental value.” The trophy, marking her third career singles title, symbolises her remarkable resurgence after years of battling injuries.

The Fifty Sonesta’s general manager, Simon Chapman, stated they are working closely with Cirstea, with their Director of Safety and Security, a retired NYPD detective, leading the investigation. Meanwhile, Tennis in the Land organisers promised to “make it right”, with their trophy supplier, Artemis Awards and Apparel, stepping in to replace the stolen item.

Fans and the tennis community are rallying behind Cirstea, hoping for the return of her cherished prize.
