Pakistan Player Dismisses Claims That Umpires Favour India
Pakistan cricketer acknowledges India’s larger stature in global cricket.
Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has dismissed the long-standing claim that umpires favour India in international cricket, offering a blunt assessment that India’s success on the field is largely due to its size, resources and influence within the sport rather than biased officiating.
The remarks came during a recent interview where the player addressed a popular narrative among some fans that match officials tend to side with India during key decisions. Rejecting the allegation, the cricketer said such claims often arise from frustration after defeats rather than from evidence of systematic bias.
He pointed out that India’s massive cricket ecosystem — including a large player pool, extensive domestic structure and significant financial power — gives the country an edge in international cricket. According to him, these structural advantages help explain India’s consistent performances rather than any supposed preferential treatment from umpires.

Imad Wasim also emphasised that modern cricket operates with multiple layers of oversight, including the Decision Review System (DRS), which allows teams to challenge on-field calls using technology. With ball-tracking, ultra-edge and other tools now part of the review process, controversial decisions are more likely to be scrutinised and corrected.
Over the years, debates over umpiring decisions involving India have frequently surfaced during high-profile matches, particularly in major ICC tournaments and bilateral series against traditional rivals. However, cricket administrators and match officials have repeatedly maintained that umpires operate under strict professional guidelines to ensure neutrality.
The cricketer’s candid comments have drawn attention across cricket circles, with many observers noting that they highlight the broader realities of modern cricket — where infrastructure, financial strength and depth of talent often play a decisive role in shaping results at the international level.
