‘Eat Good Food, Sleep’: Suryakumar Yadav Shares Relaxed Plan After T20 World Cup Win
Suryakumar Yadav plans rest, IPL return, and Olympic gold push after India’s T20 World Cup win.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav has revealed that his immediate plans after leading the country to victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 are simple: enjoy good food, rest, and then shift focus to upcoming challenges including the Indian Premier League and cricket’s debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics. Speaking to reporters outside his residence in Mumbai, the skipper said the triumph was a shared celebration between the team and millions of fans across the country.
Reflecting on the historic win, Suryakumar said lifting the trophy on home soil made the moment even more special. He thanked supporters across India for their prayers and encouragement throughout the tournament, noting that the atmosphere during the competition reflected the nation’s passion for cricket. According to him, the overwhelming support played a major role in motivating the players during crucial moments of the campaign.
The captain also spoke about celebrating the victory with his family, especially his parents, who were part of the emotional moment when India secured the title. After returning home, he said he planned to spend a few quiet days with them before returning to professional commitments. Suryakumar described the moment as deeply personal, adding that becoming a world champion alongside loved ones made the achievement even more meaningful.

Looking ahead, the Indian skipper said the team has already set its sights on cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics, where they hope to win a gold medal for India. He also highlighted that another edition of the T20 World Cup will be played in the same year, raising the possibility of India chasing a historic hat-trick of titles. According to him, maintaining the team’s momentum and fearless approach will be key to achieving those goals.
During celebrations, chants of “Surya! Surya!” from fans reminded him of the iconic “Sachin! Sachin!” calls once reserved for Sachin Tendulkar. Suryakumar said the comparison was humbling, emphasizing that Tendulkar remains the “God of Cricket” who inspired generations of Indian players. He also credited former India captain Rohit Sharma for trusting him with the leadership role after stepping down, noting that Rohit’s guidance before the tournament helped the team handle pressure during crucial matches.
Despite the magnitude of the achievement, Suryakumar said he remains grounded and deeply connected to his roots in Chembur, Mumbai, where his cricket journey began. For now, however, the captain plans to keep things simple—return home, enjoy good food, get some rest, and prepare for the next chapter that includes the IPL season and India’s pursuit of Olympic glory.
