IND A vs SL A: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Set to Open in Dambulla Tri-Series

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opens for India A against Sri Lanka A today.

India A will begin their campaign in the Tri-Nation A Series against Sri Lanka A on Tuesday, June 9, with significant attention focused on teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The opening One-Day International will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Sri Lanka, where the 15-year-old is expected to open the batting for an India A side captained by Tilak Varma. The match marks an important opportunity for several emerging players seeking to strengthen their case for future national team selection.

Sooryavanshi heads into the series on the back of a remarkable Indian Premier League 2026 season, where he finished as the Orange Cap winner while representing Rajasthan Royals. His performances have placed him among the most talked-about young cricketers in the country, and the upcoming series is expected to test his ability to adapt from the fast-paced T20 format to the longer 50-over game. Cricket observers will closely monitor how he handles Sri Lanka's spin-friendly conditions and the demands of building longer innings.

The India A squad features a number of players who impressed during the recent IPL season. Alongside Sooryavanshi, the team includes Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, Nishant Sindhu, Ayush Badoni, Anshul Kamboj and Arshad Khan. The blend of experienced domestic performers and emerging talents provides India A with a strong lineup as they prepare for a busy international schedule in the coming months.

Sri Lanka A, meanwhile, will be led by Sahan Arachchige and boasts several experienced names, including Niroshan Dickwella, Avishka Fernando, Chamika Karunaratne, and Sadeera Samarawickrama. Playing in familiar home conditions, the hosts will look to continue their recent success against India A. In the last five meetings between the two sides, Sri Lanka A has held the advantage with two victories, while India A has won once and two matches ended without a result.

The Tri-Nation A Series also features Afghanistan A and will consist of seven One-Day Internationals. Each team will face the other two sides twice during the league stage, with the top two teams progressing to the final. The tournament is expected to provide valuable international exposure for young cricketers while helping selectors assess talent ahead of future senior assignments.

The India A versus Sri Lanka A match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. IST on June 9. Fans in India can watch the live television broadcast on Sony Sports Network channels, while live streaming of the match will be available through the SonyLiv website and mobile application. With several rising stars on display and a place in the final at stake, the tournament promises to be an important platform for the next generation of international cricketers.
