IND vs ENG 2nd T20I: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Out For 14 as India Slip to Two Down
Sooryavanshi departs for 14 on debut as India lose two wickets.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s much-awaited international debut ended after a brief but explosive innings as the 15-year-old was dismissed for 14 runs off 10 balls against England in the second T20I at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday. The young left-handed batter struck two sixes during his short stay at the crease before being stumped while attempting to attack England spinner Will Jacks in the fourth over.
Sooryavanshi showed no signs of being overwhelmed by the occasion and played with the aggressive approach that has made him one of the most talked-about young cricketers in India. The teenager quickly found the boundary with two sixes and looked determined to put pressure on England’s bowlers. However, his attacking approach eventually brought his dismissal when he stepped out of his crease against Jacks and was stumped for 14.
The dismissal left India two wickets down early in their innings, with captain Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan tasked with rebuilding the innings. Sooryavanshi’s departure followed an eagerly anticipated start to the match, with considerable attention focused on how the teenage batter would handle his first appearance at the highest level of international cricket.

Earlier, Sooryavanshi received his India debut cap from Tilak Varma before the start of play, marking a historic moment in Indian cricket. At the age of 15 years and 99 days, he became India’s youngest debutant in men’s international cricket, comfortably breaking the long-standing record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at 16 years and 205 days.
Sanju Samson made way for Sooryavanshi in India’s playing XI as the team management handed the teenager his first opportunity at senior international level. His inclusion came after weeks of intense discussion and anticipation surrounding a possible debut. Although his first innings lasted only 10 deliveries, his two sixes provided an early glimpse of the fearless batting style that has driven his rapid rise.
Sooryavanshi’s debut innings ultimately ended at 14, but the teenager created history simply by taking the field for India and briefly entertained the crowd with his aggressive stroke play. Attention will now shift to how India recover from the early wickets, with Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan carrying the responsibility of building the innings against England in the second match of the five-match T20I series.
