IND vs ENG 2nd T20I: India Rebuild to 116/2 After Abhishek Sharma's Early Exit
Abhishek Sharma departs as India reach 116/2 after 11.4 overs.
India reached 116 for two against England in the second T20I at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday, with captain Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan building a strong partnership after the early dismissals of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma. The pair kept the scoreboard moving at a healthy rate and placed India in a strong position as the visitors looked to post a big first-innings total.
Abhishek Sharma became India’s second wicket after being dismissed by England all-rounder Sam Curran. The left-handed opener had looked to continue his aggressive approach at the top of the order but was unable to convert his start into a bigger innings. His departure brought Shreyas and Ishan together, and the pair responded by rebuilding the innings without allowing England to take control.
Earlier, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 14 runs off 10 balls on his much-awaited international debut. The young left-hander struck two sixes and showed his trademark attacking approach before being stumped while attempting to take on Will Jacks in the fourth over. His dismissal ended a brief but entertaining first international innings.

Shreyas won the toss earlier and elected to bat first against the England side led by Harry Brook. India entered the match searching for the first victory of the five-match series after the opening T20I ended without a result because of rain. The visitors made the major decision to hand Sooryavanshi his international debut, with Sanju Samson making way for the teenage batter.
After losing both openers, Shreyas and Ishan took responsibility for the innings and carried India to 116 for two. The partnership helped the visitors maintain momentum and build a strong platform for the remaining overs. With eight wickets still in hand, India were well placed to accelerate further and push towards a challenging total against the England bowling attack.
The second T20I remains an important contest after rain prevented a result in the series opener. India will now look to capitalise on the platform created by Shreyas and Ishan, while England desperately search for a breakthrough to slow the scoring rate. At 116 for two, the visitors remain in a commanding position as the innings moves into its decisive phase.
