Smriti Mandhana’s Father Discharged From Hospital, Wedding Still on Pause
Smriti Mandhana-Palash Muchhal ceremony postponed after double health scare.
Shrinivas Mandhana, father of Indian Women’s Cricket Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana, was discharged from Sarvhit Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Sangli on the morning of November 25 after a sudden health scare that derailed the family’s most anticipated celebration. The 70-year-old had been rushed to the facility on November 23 (the day the wedding was originally scheduled) complaining of severe chest discomfort and heart attack-like symptoms. Doctors promptly conducted an angiography, which revealed no arterial blockages, confirming that his condition is now completely stable and he is out of immediate danger, much to the relief of both the Mandhana and Muchhal families.
The high-profile wedding between Smriti Mandhana and acclaimed Music Composer Palash Muchhal, originally fixed for November 23 in Sangli, was postponed indefinitely the moment Shrinivas fell ill. Pre-wedding rituals including haldi had already taken place, but the families unanimously decided to suspend all further ceremonies until the patriarch’s full recovery. Sources close to both sides have confirmed that no fresh date has been discussed or finalised, with the couple and their relatives choosing to prioritise health and emotional well-being over any public timeline.
Compounding the anxiety, Palash Muchhal himself required medical attention just a day later on November 24 when extreme emotional distress over his prospective father-in-law’s condition triggered a sudden deterioration in his health. According to his mother Amita Muchhal, Palash was inconsolable and insisted the wedding could not proceed while Shrinivas remained hospitalised. He was initially treated at a Sangli hospital for four hours with IV drips and multiple tests (all of which returned normal) before being shifted to a Mumbai facility for further observation and rest. The episode highlighted the deep bond Palash shares with the Mandhana family.

The couple, who kept their relationship private from 2019 until going public in July 2024 with a heartfelt fifth-anniversary post, had generated immense excitement with their lavish pre-wedding festivities. However, following the health setbacks, Smriti quietly removed all wedding-related photographs and videos from her Instagram account, a move that immediately fuelled speculation across social media. Neither family has commented on the deletions, maintaining silence on the rescheduling amid widespread curiosity.
With Shrinivas now recuperating comfortably at home and Palash also reported to be stable, attention has shifted to when the couple will finally exchange vows. Both families continue to request privacy during this period, emphasising that the wedding will take place at an auspicious time once everyone is fully fit and emotionally ready. For now, the focus remains firmly on recovery rather than celebration.
