Rahul Gandhi: PM Modi Halted Pak Conflict on Trump’s Orders

Congress leader claims PM Modi obeyed Trump in five hours.

In a fiery speech at a Muzaffarpur rally, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of abruptly ending a military conflict with Pakistan in May 2025, alleging he acted within five hours of receiving instructions from U.S. President Donald Trump. Addressing the “Voter Adhikar Yatra” alongside INDIA bloc allies like DMK’s M K Stalin and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Gandhi cited Trump’s claims made during a White House cabinet meeting, where the U.S. President boasted of intervening to halt the India-Pakistan standoff, a claim India’s government has firmly denied.

Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, lambasted Modi, referencing Trump’s assertion that he gave Modi a 24-hour ultimatum to stop the conflict, which Modi allegedly complied with in just five hours. “Trump said, ‘Modi, stop the fight,’ and Modi obeyed promptly,” Gandhi charged, contrasting this with the Congress party’s historical defiance, citing Indira Gandhi’s resolve during the 1971 war despite U.S. pressure. The Modi government has maintained that the cessation of hostilities was a bilateral decision reached through direct military talks, rejecting any U.S. mediation.

The Congress leader also turned his ire on the media, accusing it of ignoring Trump’s statements to shield Modi and his “business tycoon friends” like Adani and Ambani, while sidelining opposition voices like his own, Stalin’s, and Yadav’s. Gandhi’s rally was part of a statewide campaign against alleged irregularities in Bihar’s electoral rolls, where he claimed the Election Commission (EC) deleted 65 lakh names, including those of living Dalits, OBCs, and minorities, to suppress their votes for the BJP’s benefit. “The BJP, Modi, and Shah win polls by stealing votes with the EC’s help,” he alleged, calling the “Gujarat model” a blueprint for “vote chori” (vote theft) that began under Modi’s tenure as Gujarat’s chief minister.

Gandhi vowed to expose further evidence of electoral malpractices, asserting that thousands in Bihar have reported wrongful deletions from voter lists, with some living individuals falsely marked as “dead” or “shifted.” He accused the EC of targeting marginalized communities to silence their voices, aligning with the BJP’s agenda. The yatra, with three days remaining, aims to rally public support against these alleged manipulations ahead of upcoming polls.

The BJP hit back, with spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari branding Gandhi “uncivilized” and an “agent of Pakistan” for his remarks, escalating the political slugfest. As tensions rise, Gandhi’s claims—echoing Trump’s repeated assertions about brokering peace—have reignited debates over India’s sovereignty and electoral integrity, with the opposition demanding clarity from Modi in Parliament.
