Voter Adhikar Yatra: Rahul Gandhi Urges Public to Protect Voting Rights
Rahul Gandhi accuses BJP of voter roll tampering in Bihar, calling it a threat to India's Constitution.
Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government during a public rally in Madhubani district, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating “vote chori” (vote theft) through the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Speaking as part of the Congress’ ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ on Tuesday, Gandhi emphasized that protecting the right to vote is essential to safeguarding India’s Constitution.
Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission (EC), under BJP influence, deleted 65 lakh voters from Bihar’s electoral rolls and plans to add an equivalent number to favor the ruling party. “BJP leaders are indulging in vote chori through the Election Commission,” he claimed, warning that the loss of voting rights directly threatens the Constitution’s integrity. He further accused the BJP of manipulating election dates, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not the EC, dictates electoral schedules.
The Congress leader pointed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim that the BJP would govern for another 40-50 years, linking it to alleged electoral malpractices originating in Gujarat and extending to Maharashtra and Haryana assembly polls. “When a thief is caught, he remains silent, and this is what BJP leaders are doing,” Gandhi remarked, noting the silence of Modi and Shah on his accusations. He predicted that public backlash against the SIR exercise would soon confine Modi to his Race Course Road residence, with citizens labeling him “Vote Chor.”

Gandhi also criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP’s ideological parent, for disrespecting the Constitution’s guarantee of equal rights. He urged citizens to resist electoral manipulation, warning, “If you lose your voting rights, the Constitution cannot be protected.” The rally, part of a broader campaign to highlight voter suppression concerns, signals escalating tensions ahead of Bihar’s polls, with Gandhi rallying public support to challenge the BJP’s alleged tactics and uphold democratic principles.
