Congress Leader Accuses RSS of Spreading Lies
Rahul Gandhi accuses RSS of personal attacks, vote theft.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a blistering attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing it of a long-standing strategy of targeting opponents with personal attacks, a tactic he claims was used against Mahatma Gandhi himself. Speaking at a lively discussion with Mahagathbandhan allies in Bihar, Gandhi highlighted the RSS’s history of defaming the iconic freedom fighter. “The RSS method is personal attacks. They heaped abuse and lies on Gandhi ji relentlessly—it’s their style,” said the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, during a tea break at a dhaba in Araria on Sunday.
Joined by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(ML)’s Dipankar Bhattacharya, Vikassheel Insaan Party’s Mukesh Sahani, Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar Gandhi, Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar, and Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Gandhi shared pakoras and political insights. Tushar Gandhi noted that while debates were once robust but respectful, personal abuse has been “legitimized” since 2014, a point Yadav reinforced, citing the posthumous Bharat Ratna awarded to Karpoori Thakur after earlier disrespect by the BJP.
The discussion, posted as a video on Gandhi’s X handle, also tackled allegations of “vote chori” in Bihar. Yadav accused the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP, stating, “Modi ji says something, and the Election Commissioner does it.” Sahani echoed this, noting that even BJP voters now suspect foul play, as election results contradict public sentiment favoring the INDIA bloc. “People know Modi ji is doing some ‘hera pheri’,” Sahani said, praising Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra for exposing these issues.

Launched on August 17 in Sasaram, the 16-day Yatra, backed by Mahagathbandhan allies, protests the Election Commission’s special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which Gandhi claims is a ploy to disenfranchise voters ahead of Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections. Covering over 1,300 km, the Yatra has already passed through Gayaji, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Katihar, and Purnea, with plans to reach Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, West Champaran, Saran, Bhojpur, and conclude with a rally in Patna on September 1.
Gandhi described the Yatra as a movement to protect democratic rights, with unprecedented public enthusiasm. “People are hitting the streets at 8 a.m.—something we’ve never seen,” Sahani remarked. The coalition’s united front aims to counter what they see as BJP’s manipulation of electoral processes, with Gandhi vowing to fight the RSS and BJP’s “divisive ideology” head-on. As Bihar braces for polls, this fiery exchange signals a heated battle, with Gandhi leveraging historical parallels to rally support against alleged democratic injustices.
