Rahul: 65 Lakh Poor Voters Erased in Bihar

Rahul Gandhi alleges massive voter suppression in Bihar.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi dropped a bombshell on Thursday, alleging that the names of 65 lakh impoverished and socially marginalized voters have been systematically removed from Bihar’s electoral rolls ahead of the state’s upcoming polls. Speaking at a charged rally in Sitamarhi as part of his 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' campaign, Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission (EC) of orchestrating a deliberate scheme to disenfranchise vulnerable communities.

"The BJP and EC are stealing the votes of Bihar’s poor," Gandhi declared to a roaring crowd. "These 65 lakh people, from the weakest sections of society, have been robbed of their democratic right to vote. We will not let this injustice stand." He claimed similar tactics were employed in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Karnataka, vowing to expose what he called "vote chori" with concrete evidence in the coming months.

Gandhi’s rally, aimed at mobilizing public awareness about voter rights, comes at a critical juncture as Bihar gears up for its assembly elections later this year. The Congress leader emphasized that his party would fiercely resist any attempts to manipulate the electoral process. "The people of Bihar are awake, and they will not allow their voices to be silenced," he said, urging citizens to verify their voter registration status.

Before addressing the rally, Gandhi visited the revered Janaki Temple in Sitamarhi, where he offered prayers, connecting with the cultural and spiritual sentiments of the region. The visit underscored his effort to blend political messaging with grassroots engagement in a state where caste and social dynamics play a pivotal role in elections.

The allegations have sparked a political firestorm, with opposition parties rallying behind Gandhi’s claims, while the BJP has dismissed them as baseless. Political analysts suggest the controversy could galvanize voter turnout among marginalized groups, potentially reshaping the electoral landscape. As tensions rise, all eyes are on the Election Commission to address these serious accusations and ensure a fair electoral process in Bihar.
