Entire Bihar Village Crammed Into One House? Rahul’s Claim
Rahul Gandhi alleges massive electoral roll fraud in Bihar.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sparked controversy by alleging irregularities in Bihar’s draft electoral rolls, claiming that all 947 voters from a polling booth in Nidani village, Gaya district, are listed as residents of a single house—house number six. The accusation, made during his ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' across Bihar, targets the Election Commission (EC) and questions the integrity of the voter registration process.
In a social media post shared on Thursday, Gandhi amplified a Congress party claim on X, sarcastically remarking, “See the magic of EC. An entire village has settled down in one house.” The party’s post highlighted that the anomaly in Nidani village, part of the Barachatti assembly segment, suggests widespread irregularities, potentially extending across Bihar and beyond. “This is just one village. Imagine the scale of irregularities statewide and nationally,” the post stated.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar swiftly responded via the Gaya District Magistrate’s X handle, clarifying that “notional house numbers” are assigned in villages and slum clusters without formal house numbering to simplify voter enlistment. The DM dismissed the allegations, emphasizing that the practice is standard and aids electoral processes.

Videos shared on the DM’s X account purportedly feature Nidani residents expressing satisfaction with the electoral roll revision but frustration over attempts to “defame” their village. The controversy has intensified political tensions, with Gandhi’s remarks fueling debates over electoral transparency ahead of upcoming polls. Critics argue the issue highlights systemic flaws, while officials maintain the process is robust and transparent.
