Debate Grows Over VCK Role In Possible AIADMK-DMK Alliance Political Equation
Speculation rises over VCK role in alliance leadership debate.
A new political twist has emerged in Tamil Nadu’s post-election government formation scenario, with speculation growing around Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Chief Thol Thirumavalavan as a possible unexpected chief ministerial face amid shifting coalition dynamics. The development comes as no party has secured a clear majority in the 234-member Assembly, making alliance arithmetic central to the next government formation.
At the heart of the current political uncertainty is superstar Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which has emerged as the single largest grouping with 116 seats but remains two short of the majority mark of 118. The party has been engaged in last-minute negotiations with smaller allies, including VCK, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), to bridge the gap.
VCK, which holds just two seats in the Assembly, has become a pivotal player despite its limited numerical strength. If it extends support to TVK, Vijay’s party would cross the majority threshold and stake claim to form the government. However, delays in VCK’s decision-making process, reportedly linked to the absence of one of its MLAs, have kept the situation fluid and uncertain.

Amid this political stalemate, speculation has emerged about alternative coalition arrangements involving both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), traditionally arch-rivals in Tamil Nadu politics. Reports suggest that discussions have begun at informal levels as both parties reassess their strategies in response to the fractured mandate and the rise of new political formations.
Against this backdrop, Thirumavalavan’s name has surfaced in political conversations, with coalition dynamics theoretically allowing for unexpected leadership outcomes if a workable majority is assembled around a smaller partner. However, with VCK’s limited strength and no formal confirmation of alliances, such projections remain speculative at this stage.
As negotiations continue behind closed doors, all eyes are on whether VCK will formally commit its support and whether broader coalition alignments between established Dravidian parties could reshape the state’s political landscape. The next few hours are expected to be crucial in determining the direction of government formation in Tamil Nadu.
