VCK Criticises Vijay’s Reported WhatsApp Outreach for TVK Majority
VCK criticises Vijay over alleged WhatsApp political appeal.
Tensions have emerged in Tamil Nadu’s post-election political landscape after Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) strongly criticised Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay over a reported WhatsApp-based outreach seeking support to form the state government. The remarks come amid ongoing negotiations between parties following a closely contested assembly election.
TVK, led by Vijay, secured 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in its electoral debut, falling just 10 seats short of the majority mark of 118. With no party achieving a clear majority, the formation of the next government has hinged on support from smaller and allied parties, with TVK reportedly attempting to reach out to multiple political groups.
According to reports, a communication sent via WhatsApp seeking backing from potential allies triggered sharp criticism from VCK. Party general secretary Sinthanai Selvan questioned the approach, suggesting that the situation required more formal and direct political engagement rather than informal messaging, and expressed concern over the handling of post-poll negotiations.

Selvan further remarked that Vijay should have personally met party leaders to discuss support and accused the TVK leadership of misjudging the political situation. He also questioned the influence of what he termed second-rung leaders within TVK, alleging that they may be shaping key decisions during a sensitive phase of coalition-building.
In his criticism, Selvan accused Vijay of displaying “arrogance” immediately after the election results and referred to his remarks on the end of “monarchy” as contradictory. He also pointed to perceived inconsistencies in TVK’s political positioning, highlighting its criticism of dynastic politics while simultaneously engaging with parties it had previously opposed in alliance dynamics. As coalition arithmetic continues, TVK is reportedly seeking support from at least 12 additional MLAs to reach the majority threshold. The political developments have intensified scrutiny over alliance negotiations, with smaller parties like VCK emerging as key players in determining the next government in Tamil Nadu.
