Amit Shah: Modi Government Set New Tradition After Pulwama Attack
Amit Shah praises Modi govt’s retaliation after Pulwama, accuses UPA of inaction on terror.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), accusing them of failing to respond decisively to terror attacks during their tenure. Addressing a BJP public meeting in Karaikal, Puducherry, he asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi established a “new tradition” of strong retaliation after the 2019 Pulwama attack.
Paying tribute to the 40 CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the February 14, 2019 attack in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said their sacrifice would never be forgotten. He stated that under previous Congress-led governments, terror strikes by Pakistan-based groups often went unanswered. In contrast, he highlighted India’s airstrikes in Balakot as a decisive action carried out inside Pakistani territory following the Pulwama attack.
Referring to the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, Shah said the Modi government demonstrated a shift in India’s security doctrine. He claimed that while earlier regimes refrained from strong military responses, the present government acted firmly to eliminate terror camps across the border. The remarks were met with applause from party supporters at the rally.

Shah said the public meeting had two primary objectives: to present the “report card” of the so-called double-engine government led by PM Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy in Puducherry, and to “expose and unmask” what he described as the “trinity power” of the UPA and the INDIA alliance. He accused the previous Congress administration in Puducherry of corruption and political instability.
Beginning his address by expressing respect for the cultural heritage of Puducherry, Shah apologised for not speaking in Tamil and bowed to the “great land” of the Union Territory. He asserted that over the past five years, the NDA government had eradicated corruption, ensured political stability, and strengthened Puducherry’s autonomy. Shah is expected to formally launch the BJP’s election campaign in Karaikal ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls, marking a significant political push in the region.
