PM Modi Sends Warm Herath Poshte Wishes to Kashmiri Pandits

PM Modi greets Kashmiri Pandits on Herath Poshte festival.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the Kashmiri Pandit community on the auspicious occasion of Herath Poshte. Describing the festival as a sacred reflection of the community’s profound cultural and spiritual traditions, he highlighted its significance in preserving centuries-old rituals and values. His message resonated widely across social media, drawing appreciation from members of the community and well-wishers.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister expressed prayers for wellness, prosperity, and happiness for all. He wished that the festival would bring abundance into every home and open new pathways of success. His message underscored themes of unity, faith, and collective well-being, which are central to the celebration.

Herath, one of the most important festivals for Kashmiri Pandits, derives its name from the Sanskrit words “Hara,” another name for Lord Shiva, and “Ratri,” meaning night. The festival commemorates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Observed with deep devotion, it symbolizes spiritual awakening and the triumph of divine grace.

Traditionally celebrated with elaborate rituals, Herath involves night-long prayers, offerings, and special ceremonies performed in Kashmiri households. Families prepare sacred vessels representing deities, chant hymns, and gather for communal meals that strengthen familial and cultural bonds. The festival serves not only as a religious observance but also as a reaffirmation of identity and resilience.

In recent years, national leaders have increasingly acknowledged the cultural importance of such regional festivals. By extending his greetings, the Prime Minister once again spotlighted the rich heritage of the Kashmiri Pandit community and emphasized the importance of preserving India’s diverse traditions. Herath Poshte continues to stand as a vibrant testament to faith, continuity, and cultural pride.
