Two Soldiers Martyred, Two Terrorists Killed During Operation Guddar in Kulgam

Omar Abdullah pays tribute to fallen soldiers.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid heartfelt floral tributes on Tuesday to two Indian Army soldiers, Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu, who made the ultimate sacrifice during a fierce encounter with terrorists in Kulgam district’s Gudar forest on Monday. The solemn wreath-laying ceremony, held at the Chinar Corps headquarters in Srinagar, underscored the bravery and dedication of the fallen heroes, whose deaths have deeply moved the region.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s office stated, “The chief minister today paid solemn tributes at the wreath-laying ceremony of the two brave soldiers who lost their lives in Kulgam. He observed that their exemplary courage, unwavering valour, and ultimate sacrifice will be eternally remembered with deep respect and gratitude.” Abdullah also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the families of the martyrs, emphasizing solidarity in their time of grief.

The encounter, code-named Operation Guddar, began when security forces, acting on intelligence inputs, launched a joint search operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF in the dense Gudar forest. The operation escalated into a fierce gunfight, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists, one suspected to be a Pakistani national. Tragically, an Army Major also sustained injuries during the intense exchange, highlighting the high stakes of counter-terrorism efforts in the region.

The incident is part of a series of operations in Kulgam, a district that has seen heightened militant activity. The successful neutralization of the terrorists underscores the security forces’ resolve to combat terrorism, but the loss of Gaur and Sindhu has cast a somber shadow over the victory. As Jammu and Kashmir continues to grapple with security challenges, Abdullah’s tribute serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the armed forces to protect the region’s peace and stability.
