Telangana Requests Centre’s Support To Complete Warangal And Adilabad Airports
Telangana seeks faster airport development in Warangal and Adilabad.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sought the Centre’s cooperation to complete the proposed airports in Warangal and Adilabad by June 2, 2028. During a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu in New Delhi, the Chief Minister discussed the progress, design plans, and development requirements for the two airport projects. He said both governments would work together to ensure timely completion of the infrastructure initiatives.
Speaking after the meeting, Revanth Reddy said the Union Civil Aviation Ministry had assured cooperation for the construction of the two airports. He stated that the state government has set a target to complete the projects and inaugurate them on Telangana Formation Day in 2028. The Chief Minister emphasized that modern airports meeting international standards are important for strengthening the state’s economic growth and connectivity.
Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana’s contribution to the national economy, stating that the state accounts for around 2.5 per cent of India’s population while contributing approximately 5 per cent to the country’s GDP. He said improved aviation infrastructure would support industrial development, tourism, and investment opportunities. He also noted that the design of the Warangal airport would incorporate elements of Kakatiya culture to reflect the region’s historical heritage.

Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu said the target set by the Telangana government for completing the Warangal airport by June 2, 2028, would be pursued with additional efforts if required. He announced that construction work on the airport project is expected to begin within three weeks. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, both leaders discussed proposed facilities and design aspects of the upcoming airports during the meeting.
The Warangal airport project is planned at Mamnoor, where the state government has already allocated land for development. Earlier, the Civil Aviation Ministry had indicated that the foundation stone for the airport would be laid after necessary preparations. The project is expected to improve air connectivity in the region and support the growing economic activities of Telangana.
The Adilabad airport project is being planned as a defence facility with a dedicated civil aviation component. Following discussions with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, plans were announced for developing the airport using the existing defence airstrip. The Defence facility currently has around 360 acres, while the state government has been asked to acquire an additional 450 acres. The proposed airport is expected to have a runway capable of handling Airbus A320 aircraft.
