Owaisi Meets Telangana Chief Secretary, Raises Demand For Voter PRCs

Owaisi raises voter certificate demand with Telangana officials.

AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday met Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju and urged the state government to issue Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) or Family Register Certificates to voters during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Owaisi said such documents would help eligible citizens, especially those from economically weaker sections, avoid difficulties during the voter list verification process.

Owaisi, along with Telangana Minority Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) president and vice chairman Faheem Qureshi, met the Chief Secretary and requested the state government to consider issuing PRCs under Article 162. He said the move would support residents in establishing their eligibility and ensure that genuine voters are included in the final SIR list.

The AIMIM chief said issuing such certificates would particularly benefit poor people, minorities, Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who may face challenges due to a lack of documentation. He said Karnataka has already implemented a similar system by issuing PRCs through a government order under the Karnataka Sakala Services Act, 2011.

Owaisi highlighted that Telangana has several government databases that could help verify residency details. These include the Samagra Kutumba Survey, the Socio Economic and Caste Survey conducted in 2024 and 2025, the BHU Bharati Act 2025 records, Food Security Card databases, municipal tax records, and school and board records.

Earlier on July 6, Owaisi had raised concerns that many poor residents lacked sufficient documents and could face exclusion during the voter list revision process. He questioned why the Telangana government had not taken steps to provide PRCs and said such a measure could help prevent hardship for citizens during the electoral verification exercise.

Owaisi also appealed to the Congress-led state government not to wait until the final voter list is published before addressing concerns. He said authorities should take preventive measures and provide solutions in advance. The Hyderabad MP added that he had already discussed the issue with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and was seeking a meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
