Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday spoke with the parents of a 10-year-old girl who was found murdered near Sulur in Coimbatore district, offering his condolences and assuring them that the state government would ensure strict punishment for those responsible. The tragic incident has triggered widespread outrage across Tamil Nadu, with political leaders and the public demanding swift and stringent action.
During the phone call, the Chief Minister conveyed his sympathies to the grieving family and assured them that the case would be treated with utmost seriousness. He reportedly told the parents that the government is committed to ensuring justice and that the investigation will be pursued thoroughly to bring those responsible to account. Officials said the Chief Minister also described the crime as an inhuman act that has no place in society.
According to police, the victim, a resident of a village near Sulur, had gone out for shopping but failed to return home, prompting her family to file a missing complaint. Following this, police launched a large-scale search operation with assistance from local residents. The search ended in tragedy when the child was found dead in a bushy area nearby, sending shockwaves through the community.

Investigators later identified the girl’s neighbour, Karthik, aged 33, as the prime suspect in the case. He was arrested in connection with the crime, while another individual, Mohan Raj, is also being questioned as a suspected accomplice. Police officials have confirmed that both are currently in custody as part of an ongoing investigation to determine the sequence of events and possible motives behind the incident.
The brutal nature of the crime has sparked widespread anger and concern over the safety of children in the state, with citizens and organisations calling for stronger preventive measures. The case has also reignited debate over the need for faster judicial processes and stricter enforcement of laws related to crimes against minors. Authorities have said that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
