RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat: Science and Dharma Seek the Same Truth
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat says science and dharma have no conflict, differ only in method but share the same goal of truth.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday strongly dismissed the idea of a conflict between science and dharma, stating that both ultimately seek the same universal truth. Speaking at the Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan, he emphasized that the perceived divide arises from misunderstanding rather than fundamental differences. According to him, science and spirituality are complementary, not contradictory.
Bhagwat explained that dharma is often wrongly equated with religion, which leads to confusion. He clarified that dharma should be understood as the natural law that governs the functioning of creation. Whether one acknowledges it or not, he said, no individual or system can operate outside this universal framework.
Highlighting the consequences of ignoring dharma, Bhagwat warned that imbalance in this natural order leads to destruction. He suggested that social, environmental, and moral crises stem from deviations from dharma. In his view, recognizing and aligning with these laws is essential for sustainable progress.

The RSS chief also noted that science has historically maintained a distance from dharma. This, he said, was based on the belief that dharma had no place in scientific inquiry. Bhagwat described this approach as fundamentally flawed, arguing that excluding dharma limits a deeper understanding of existence.
According to Bhagwat, the only real difference between science and spirituality lies in their methodologies. While science relies on observation and experimentation, spirituality follows introspection and experience. Despite these different approaches, he asserted, both aim to uncover the same ultimate truth.
Concluding his address, Bhagwat reiterated that there is no inherent contradiction between science and dharma. Instead, he called for a holistic outlook that respects both disciplines. Such an approach, he said, would lead to a more balanced understanding of life, nature, and the universe.
