Mohan Bhagwat Says India Is a Hindu Rashtra by Culture, No Amendment Required
RSS chief asserts no Constitution needed for cultural truth.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat has unequivocally stated that India is intrinsically a Hindu Rashtra, a status that derives from the nation's deep-rooted cultural essence and requires no formal constitutional validation or amendment, as it embodies an immutable reality comparable to undeniable natural truths.
Delivering his address at a conference in Kolkata on December 21, 2025, Bhagwat illustrated his point by comparing India's Hindu identity to the perpetual rising of the sun in the east, underscoring that this characteristic persists as long as even a single individual on Indian soil continues to honor and celebrate the country's ancient traditions, ancestral legacy, and shared cultural heritage.
He expressed complete indifference toward any potential parliamentary decision to incorporate the term into the Constitution, affirming that the RSS's commitment to Hindutva remains unwavering regardless of legislative actions, while explicitly distancing true Hindutva from discriminatory practices such as birth-based caste hierarchies and promoting the everyday use of indigenous languages over imported ones in public and private spheres.

Bhagwat addressed prevailing misconceptions about the RSS, attributing them to deliberate and sustained misinformation campaigns designed to distort public perception, and extended an open invitation for skeptics to personally observe the organization's activities, which he described as fully transparent and devoid of any animosity toward Muslims or other communities.
Reiterating that the RSS harbors no hidden political ambitions, he cautioned against anti-national and anti-Sangh propaganda allegedly orchestrated by elements fearful of Hinduism's growing influence, urging individuals to form judgments based solely on verifiable facts and direct experience rather than relying on second-hand narratives or fabricated accounts.
