Red Alert In Rajasthan: Heavy Rains Lash, Two Dead Many Injured in Jaipur
Met issues red alert; floods, collapses and diversions reported; two dead in incidents.
Heavy rainfall battered parts of Rajasthan on Saturday, triggering a red alert for Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, and Pratapgarh districts, with forecasts of extremely heavy showers continuing into Sunday. The downpour led to two fatalities, property damage, flooding, and traffic chaos, as a low-pressure system over southeast Rajasthan is expected to intensify into a depression within 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Department.
In Jaipur, a man and his daughter died, and five others were injured when a dilapidated house partially collapsed amid the rains. A 40-year-old farmer was killed by lightning in Kaliakhedi village, Kota's Ramganjmandi area. Udaipur saw a school boundary wall crumble, while Bhilwara reported severe flooding with colonies submerged under 2-3 feet of water, inundating underpasses and low-lying areas.
Schools remained shut in Ajmer, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, and Salumber due to the weather. In Rajsamand's Kumbhalgarh, overnight rains washed away a section of National Highway-162, diverting traffic. Authorities opened two more gates at Tonk's Bisalpur dam, bringing the total to eight, to manage surging inflows.
