GST Reforms Historic, Will Benefit All Sections: Haryana CM Saini

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday lauded the GST Council's reforms as a "historic measure" that will benefit every section of society, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to empower the poor, farmers, and common people. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Saini emphasized that slashing GST rates on essential items will curb inflation, boost savings for the middle class and poor, and strengthen the economy toward 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

The reforms simplify GST to two main slabs—5% and 18%—with zero tax on essentials like packaged milk and cheese, effective from September 22. A 40% slab applies to sin goods like high-end cars and tobacco. Saini noted reductions on tractors and parts will lower farmers' costs and modernise agriculture, estimating Rs 4,000 crore in benefits for Haryana residents.

Dismissing links to upcoming elections, including Bihar's, Saini criticised the Congress and INDI Alliance for lacking issues, accusing them of fabricating claims like 'vote theft' and EVM tampering. "Neither the constitution nor democracy is in danger; it's the Congress that's getting wiped out," he said, praising GST as India's biggest post-Independence reform for creating 'One India—One Tax—One Market.'

Saini, who attended the 56th GST Council meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, affirmed Haryana's support. Additionally, he announced the e-Kshatipurti portal remains open for farmers in 2,897 flood-affected villages to claim crop damage compensation, with verifications underway. Relief materials are being sent to Punjab from Haryana districts.

The CM credited Modi's leadership for fulfilling promises, ensuring transparency, and economic growth.
