Ranthambore Express Coach Sparks Trigger Panic In Ratlam, No Injuries Reported

Coach sparks cause panic in Ratlam train incident.

Panic gripped passengers aboard the Indore–Bhagat Ki Kothi Ranthambore Express on Thursday morning after sparks and smoke were noticed emanating from the wheels of a general coach near Luni-Richa station in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district. Railway authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. when the train, operating as train number 12465, was en route from Indore to Jodhpur. According to initial reports, the loco pilot noticed the abnormal situation and immediately applied emergency brakes, bringing the train to a halt near the station, even though it was not a scheduled stop for the service.

Soon after the train stopped, smoke was seen emerging from beneath a rear general coach, triggering panic among passengers. Many travellers quickly evacuated the affected coach with their belongings and moved onto the adjacent tracks, as alarm spread through the train. Visuals from the scene later surfaced on social media showing passengers standing along the railway tracks, with another train present on a parallel line at the time.

Railway officials stated that a technical team was dispatched immediately after receiving information about the incident. The train was inspected at the site, and after a brief halt of approximately 20 minutes, it was cleared to resume its journey. Authorities also confirmed that normal operations were restored without disruption to other services in the section.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the smoke and sparks may have been triggered following the emergency braking, though officials have not ruled out other technical possibilities. A detailed inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the incident, and further technical evaluation of the affected coach will be conducted.

Officials reiterated that there was no loss of life or property in the episode. The Ranthambore Express, which departs Indore at 6 a.m. and reaches Jodhpur late in the night, has previously been part of safety-related discussions in the region, including an earlier fire incident reported on another train section in Ratlam district.
