Rajasthan Government Approves Permanent Lok Adalats In Eight Districts

The Rajasthan government has approved the establishment of Permanent Lok Adalats in eight districts to strengthen access to affordable and speedy justice. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma cleared the proposal on Thursday, with the initiative aimed at providing citizens with a faster, cost-effective and amicable mechanism for resolving disputes while reducing the burden on conventional courts. The move is expected to enhance the state's legal infrastructure and improve access to justice, particularly in newly created districts.

Under the approved proposal, Permanent Lok Adalats will be established in Phalodi, Didwana-Kuchaman, Khairthal-Tijara, Beawar, Barmer, Deeg, Kotputli-Behror and Salumbar. The state government said these institutions will bring dispute resolution services closer to residents, ensuring that people in these districts have easier access to legal remedies without undergoing lengthy court proceedings. The initiative is also intended to strengthen the justice delivery system at the grassroots level.

Permanent Lok Adalats function as statutory forums for resolving disputes related to public utility services through conciliation and, where required, adjudication. They are designed to encourage amicable settlements before matters escalate into prolonged litigation. By offering a simpler and less expensive alternative to conventional courts, these forums help litigants resolve eligible disputes efficiently while reducing procedural delays and legal costs.

According to officials, the expansion of Permanent Lok Adalats will make justice delivery more citizen-centric, especially in districts where access to judicial institutions has been relatively limited. The initiative is also expected to enhance public confidence in accessible and timely legal remedies.

With the Chief Minister's approval now in place, the process of setting up these forums is expected to begin in the identified districts.
