Rajasthan Fourth In Jan Dhan Deposits As Over 3.85 Crore Accounts Opened

State records over 3.85 crore Jan Dhan accounts.

Rajasthan has emerged as one of the leading states in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), with more than 3.85 crore Jan Dhan accounts opened across the state. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance, Rajasthan ranks fourth in the country in terms of total deposits under the scheme, highlighting the state's progress in promoting financial inclusion.

The PMJDY has played a significant role in expanding access to formal banking services for economically weaker and marginalised sections of society while facilitating the direct transfer of benefits under various government welfare schemes. The initiative has also strengthened the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system by ensuring subsidies and financial assistance reach beneficiaries directly in their bank accounts.

Women account for the majority of Jan Dhan account holders in Rajasthan. Of the more than 3.85 crore accounts opened in the state, over 2.19 crore belong to women, representing 57 per cent of the total—slightly higher than the national average of 56 per cent. The scheme has enabled women, particularly those in the unorganised sector, to access banking facilities, government subsidies, insurance coverage, pension benefits, and other financial services.

Deposits in Rajasthan’s Jan Dhan accounts have exceeded Rs 24,610 crore, placing the state fourth nationwide in terms of total deposits. Across the country, cumulative deposits under the scheme have reached Rs 2.67 lakh crore, reflecting growing public confidence in the formal banking system and increased participation in financial services.

To encourage digital transactions, more than 2.87 crore RuPay debit cards have been issued to Jan Dhan account holders in Rajasthan. Beneficiaries whose accounts were opened after August 28, 2018, are eligible for accidental insurance coverage of up to Rs 2 lakh, in addition to cashless payment facilities and other banking services.

Apart from zero-balance banking, Jan Dhan account holders can also avail themselves of an overdraft facility of up to Rs 10,000. Officials said the scheme has significantly strengthened financial inclusion in Rajasthan by expanding access to banking, promoting digital payments, and ensuring transparent and efficient delivery of welfare benefits to millions of beneficiaries across the state.
