President Murmu: Fintech Must Advance Gender Equality and Inclusion

President Murmu urged fintech to drive gender justice and inclusion at the Black Swan Summit in Bhubaneswar.

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday emphasised that technology, especially fintech, must serve as a tool for social justice and inclusion. Addressing the Black Swan Summit India in Bhubaneswar, she said India’s fintech journey should be remembered for advancing gender justice. She stressed that innovation must go beyond convenience and profitability. The focus, she said, should remain on fairness, dignity and equal participation.

The President highlighted the need to evaluate every fintech platform and policy through the lens of women’s empowerment. She said women should not be viewed merely as end users of digital services. Instead, they must be encouraged as leaders, professionals and entrepreneurs within the fintech ecosystem. Gender inclusion, she noted, must be built into design and governance.

Referring to India’s digital transformation, President Murmu said fintech has strengthened financial inclusion across the country. She pointed out that over 57 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened, with more than half held by women. Digital payments and direct benefit transfers, she added, have become lifelines for farmers and small businesses. These measures have improved trust and participation in the financial system.

However, the President cautioned that fintech alone does not guarantee inclusion for all citizens. People in remote, tribal and rural areas often lack digital literacy and access. She urged innovators to design technologies that promote skilling, employment and entrepreneurship. Inclusive growth, she said, must remain a core objective of innovation.

President Murmu also flagged concerns related to cybersecurity, financial fraud, misinformation and deepfakes. She highlighted government initiatives to tackle cybercrime and stressed the importance of awareness. Calling for digital and financial literacy in school education, she said future generations must understand both benefits and risks. She concluded by expressing confidence that the summit would contribute to inclusive growth towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
