President Murmu at Fakir Mohan University Convocation: Universities Key to Inclusive Growth and Innovation

President Murmu highlights universities' role in inclusive growth at Fakir Mohan University convocation.

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday attended the convocation of Fakir Mohan University in Balasore, Odisha, and inaugurated the university’s newly built auditorium. Addressing students and faculty, she underscored the crucial role of higher education institutions in promoting inclusive growth, innovation, and social transformation through research, critical thinking, and ethical leadership.

Paying tribute to eminent Odia writer Fakir Mohan Senapati, President Murmu recalled the inspiration she drew from his story Revati, which highlights a young girl’s determination to pursue education in the 19th century. She recounted her own journey from a remote tribal village to Bhubaneswar for higher studies, emphasizing the transformative power of education.

The President stressed the importance of learning in the mother tongue, noting that it strengthens students’ understanding of culture, traditions, and civilisational values. She highlighted that the National Education Policy 2020 encourages mother-tongue instruction to maintain a strong connection between students and their cultural roots.

President Murmu also highlighted India’s rich knowledge heritage in literature, science, medicine, astronomy, and architecture, urging students to undertake research that combines traditional wisdom with modern innovation. She encouraged them to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the nation’s progress while fostering personal and societal development.

Congratulating graduates, the President emphasized that meaningful contributions to society matter more than mere personal success. She urged students to prioritize the welfare of marginalized communities and highlighted Fakir Mohan University’s efforts in research, outreach, and regional development, including initiatives in agriculture, fisheries, environmental awareness, and skill development.

Highlighting the university’s forward-looking approach, she lauded research centres on blue crabs and horseshoe crabs along the Balasore-Bhadrak coast, reflecting a commitment to region-specific innovation. Concluding her address, President Murmu expressed confidence in the university’s ability to foster sustainable, equitable, and value-driven development, reinforcing its transformative role in Odisha and beyond.
