PM Modi Addresses Art Of Living Event, Emphasises Role Of Society In Nation-Building
PM Modi says society is more powerful than government at Art of Living event in Bengaluru.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attended the 45th anniversary celebrations of The Art of Living Foundation in Bengaluru, where he inaugurated the newly built Dhyan Mandir and launched several associated initiatives. The event was held in the presence of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and drew a large gathering of followers, dignitaries, and volunteers associated with the organisation.
During his address, PM Modi spoke on themes of spirituality, collective responsibility, and nation-building, highlighting the importance of public participation in development efforts. He said that India’s progress depends not only on government action but also on active involvement from society. In one of his key remarks, he stated that “society is more powerful than politics and even governments,” emphasising the role of citizens in shaping national outcomes.
The Prime Minister also reflected on the significance of the newly inaugurated Dhyan Mandir, describing it as an example of service-driven initiatives rooted in clear intentions and collective welfare. He praised the efforts of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and the Art of Living Foundation, noting that their work in yoga, meditation, and community service has contributed to spreading India’s spiritual traditions globally.

Highlighting Bengaluru’s dual identity as a technology and cultural hub, PM Modi said the city represents both innovation and spiritual consciousness. He pointed to India’s growing global influence in areas such as software, space, digital technology, and startups, while also underlining the importance of maintaining mental and spiritual balance alongside economic development. He said practices like yoga, meditation, and pranayama are central to India’s cultural heritage and increasingly relevant worldwide.
The Prime Minister also emphasised the role of youth in shaping a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), stating that future progress depends on young people who are both socially responsible and mentally balanced. He linked innovation and economic growth with inner well-being, suggesting that spiritual grounding plays an important role in sustaining long-term national development and creativity.
Concluding his speech, PM Modi called for stronger collaboration between government, society, and spiritual organisations in addressing national challenges. He praised initiatives undertaken by the Art of Living Foundation, including environmental campaigns, rural development projects, and mental health programmes. He also encouraged wider participation in tree plantation drives and other social initiatives, expressing confidence that such collective efforts would continue to strengthen India’s development journey.
