Outdated Intelligence Led to US Strike on Iranian School That Killed 165: Military Investigation
Pentagon probe finds faulty DIA target data caused deadly US missile strike on Iran school.
A preliminary investigation by the United States Department of Defence has indicated that outdated intelligence may have led to a deadly missile strike by the United States Central Command on an elementary school in Iran, resulting in the deaths of more than 165 people, many of them children. The strike targeted the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School, located near a base associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, during the early phase of the ongoing conflict.
According to officials cited by the Associated Press, investigators believe that outdated target coordinates provided by the Defence Intelligence Agency were used during the operation. The incorrect intelligence is suspected to have caused the missile strike to hit the school instead of the intended military target nearby. The incident has since become one of the most controversial episodes of the conflict, drawing international attention and raising concerns over the accuracy of intelligence used in military operations.
Initially, Donald Trump blamed Iran for the incident. However, the US president later said he would accept the outcome of the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Pentagon. The White House confirmed that the inquiry remains underway and that officials are working to determine exactly how the outdated intelligence was used during the strike.

The strike has also triggered political pressure within the United States, with more than 45 Democratic senators calling for answers from defence secretary Pete Hegseth. Lawmakers have raised concerns about recent cuts to Pentagon offices responsible for monitoring and reducing civilian casualties during military operations. The investigation is expected to examine intelligence procedures and accountability as part of broader efforts to understand how the incident occurred.
