Operation Sindoor: What Exactly Did India Achieve? A Lot, Actually

Operation Sindoor: India’s Strategic Triumph in Counter-Terrorism

On May 7, 2025, India launched Operation Sindoor, a series of precision airstrikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

This operation marked a significant milestone in India’s counter-terrorism strategy, yielding tactical and strategic gains.

The Indian Air Force’s strikes neutralized key terrorist camps in Muzaffarabad and Kotli, eliminating 60-70 terrorists, including commanders from Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, according to open-source intelligence.

By dismantling launch pads and logistics hubs, India disrupted the operational capabilities of these groups, delivering a severe blow to Pakistan’s terror network. The use of drones and precision-guided munitions ensured minimal collateral damage, showcasing India’s military precision.

Strategically, Operation Sindoor reinforced India’s zero-tolerance policy toward cross-border terrorism. The operation signaled a shift to proactive, punitive measures, deterring future attacks by demonstrating India’s willingness to strike deep into enemy territory. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s statements underscored Pakistan’s culpability, amplifying India’s narrative globally.

By sharing evidence of terrorist camps with nations like the U.S. and U.K., India gained diplomatic leverage, pressuring Pakistan and securing a U.S.-mediated ceasefire on May 10, though later violated by Pakistan.

Domestically, the operation bolstered public morale and the government’s image as resolute on national security, with widespread support reflected in social media sentiment. However, challenges persist: Pakistan’s ceasefire violations and disinformation campaigns highlight the risk of escalation, and the long-term dismantling of terror networks remains uncertain.

Operation Sindoor emerges as a tactical success, neutralizing immediate threats and strengthening India’s deterrence, but sustained diplomatic and military efforts are crucial to ensure lasting security gains.
