Nitish Kumar Vows Jobs for One Crore Bihar Youth
Bihar CM pledges massive youth employment drive
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, addressing a gathering after unfurling the national tricolour at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on India’s 79th Independence Day, pledged to provide government jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youth in the state “in the coming years.” This ambitious target expands on his earlier promise of 10 lakh government jobs, with the state Cabinet approving a five-year plan on July 15, 2025, to achieve this goal. “Bihar is advancing with high growth and inclusive development. Our new target is to empower one crore youth through jobs and opportunities,” Kumar declared, highlighting the state’s economic progress.
With assembly elections approaching later in 2025, Kumar announced a slew of youth-centric initiatives. A key measure is a uniform ₹100 fee for preliminary tests of all competitive exams, with mains exams made free, aimed at benefiting lakhs of job aspirants. “This will ease the financial burden on our youth,” he said, reinforcing Bihar’s commitment to accessible education and employment. The state has already provided over 5.5 lakh government jobs since 2020, with plans to add 12 lakh more, including self-employment opportunities through skill development programs.
To spur industrial growth, Kumar unveiled a special capital subsidy for investors and promised dispute-free industrial plots to enhance investor confidence through improved infrastructure and transparent processes. “Bihar is open for business, and we are creating a conducive environment for industries,” he said, citing the state’s 11.65% GDP growth rate in 2024-25, among India’s highest. Additionally, the government plans to establish new medical colleges in Kishanganj, Katihar, Rohtas, Sheohar, Lakhisarai, Alwar, and Sheikhpura to bolster healthcare education and services.

Kumar also addressed transportation needs, announcing interstate bus services to manage passenger rush during festivals like Durga Puja, Chhath, and Holi. He urged the Railways Ministry to operate additional special trains during these periods. Crediting the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s central government, Kumar emphasized collaborative efforts driving Bihar’s transformation. Recent data shows Bihar’s per capita income rose from ₹36,000 in 2015 to ₹60,000 in 2024, reflecting steady progress.
The CM’s vision aligns with initiatives like the Bihar Startup Policy, which has supported over 2,000 startups since 2022, and the Mukhya Mantri Udyami Yojana, benefiting 25 lakh families with interest-free loans. As Bihar gears up for elections, Kumar’s focus on employment, infrastructure, and inclusive growth positions the state as a model for development, aiming to empower its youth and elevate its economic standing by 2030.
