PM Modi’s 5 Bold Independence Day 2025 Announcements

PM Modi unveils transformative reforms, security plans

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi delivered a historic 103-minute Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, marking his 12th consecutive address and surpassing his previous record of 98 minutes from 2024. Outlining a vision for a self-reliant and prosperous India by 2047, PM Modi announced five transformative initiatives to bolster economic growth, national security, and social progress, particularly in response to global challenges like the 50% US tariffs on Indian goods effective August 27.

1) PM Modi introduced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a decade-long plan to develop an indigenous defense system inspired by Lord Krishna’s mythical weapon. Aimed for completion by 2035, it will protect strategic, civilian, and religious sites using advanced weaponry and surveillance, emphasizing self-reliance. “This system will not only counter terrorist attacks but strike back,” he said, citing the success of Operation Sindoor against Pakistan’s terror infrastructure.

2) PM Modi promised next-generation GST reforms by Diwali 2025, reducing taxes on essential goods to ease the burden on households, MSMEs, and local vendors. Described as a “Diwali gift,” these reforms aim to streamline compliance and boost economic activity, aligning with discussions with state finance ministers to rationalize GST slabs.

3) The Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, a ₹1 lakh crore employment scheme, was launched to create 3.5 crore jobs over two years. First-time private-sector employees will receive ₹15,000 monthly, with incentives for companies hiring freshers, benefiting around three crore youth and bridging the gap to a prosperous India. Approved by the Union Cabinet on July 1, 2025, this initiative underscores job creation as a priority.

4) A high-powered demography mission was announced to address illegal infiltration and demographic imbalances in border areas, which PM Modi labeled a national security threat. The mission aims to safeguard citizens’ rights and maintain India’s unity, responding to concerns about tribal land encroachments and job losses.

5) PM Modi outlined plans to expand nuclear energy capacity tenfold by 2047, with 10 new reactors under construction. This aligns with India’s early achievement of 50% non-fossil fuel electricity capacity in 2025, reinforcing energy self-reliance through solar, hydrogen, and nuclear advancements.

These announcements reflect PM Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat,’ leveraging self-reliance and innovation to navigate global trade tensions and domestic challenges, setting a roadmap for India’s centenary of independence.
