PM Modi Urges Quality Manufacturing at Low Cost

PM Modi pushes affordable, high-quality products

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi urged entrepreneurs and industries to prioritize manufacturing high-quality products at affordable prices, during his address. Reiterating his earlier “zero defect, zero effect” philosophy, PM Modi emphasized, “If we want to showcase our products globally, we must scale new heights in quality. The world respects quality.” He introduced a mantra for manufacturers: “Daam kam, lakin dum zyada” (lower prices, but higher quality), underscoring the need for cost-effective, superior goods to compete internationally.

PM Modi highlighted government efforts to ensure affordable raw materials to keep production costs low, complementing initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes across over a dozen sectors. The Union Budget 2025-26 introduced the National Manufacturing Mission, covering small, medium, and large industries to bolster the ‘Make in India’ campaign.

In his 103-minute speech, PM Modi also championed the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, urging citizens, shopkeepers, social media influencers, and political parties to promote domestically made goods. “Swadeshi should stem from pride and strength, not compulsion,” he said, encouraging visible promotions like ‘Swadeshi’ boards outside shops to foster self-reliance and strengthen India’s economic and industrial base.

The call aligns with India’s push to counter global trade challenges, including the US’s 50% tariffs on Indian goods effective August 27, 2025. By focusing on quality and affordability, PM Modi aims to enhance India’s global market competitiveness while supporting local entrepreneurship and reducing import dependency, aligning with the broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
